With the streets closed the parade began to take shape as people prepared for the 1 o'clock set off. The huge Rainbow Flag was unfurled, balloons were strung over the fire engines, St John Ambulance, the armed forces, charities, pressure groups and hundreds of people helping put last minute touches to costumes, makeup and scenery.

Pride 2008 sees, perhaps aptly, a fairytale adventure theme, and pridegoers are invited to dress for the occasion inspired by fairytale, myth and legend. A parade through the capital's famous streets ends with a huge rally in Trafalgar Square and partying in the streets of Soho.
