What was all THAT about?

To be fair - this could have been, SHOULD have been an absolute scream. And if the publicity was to be believed: a night of a thousand thrills, cheeky, sexy, kitsch abandon - burlesque dancers, strippers, go-go girls and biker gals, big screen sexploitation and saucy film shows! An evening in homage to the cheeky, wise, arch and clever Mr Russ Meyer, with a personal appearance by the lovely, fullsome and pneumatic Miss Kitten Natividad, actress, stripper, porn-star and incidentally, the former Mrs Meyer herself.

What we ended up with was a reasonably good West Coast psycho-rockabilly band (admittedly better than anything of the kind I've seen for some time), a frankly appalling looped film montage of clips from some of the Classic Meyer movies with pretty dreadful sound and cutting (you know how your favourite dirty video goes after you have watched it one hundred times too many), with a bit of mediocre ass shaking from a bored looking girl who looked like she wanted to go home early (possibly with the band). But worst of all, an embarrassing and badly presented Q&A session with Miss Kitten and a scary Teutonic blonde, possibly her manager, who also doubled as the shop girl and official photographer. Oh DEAR.

There were a few good-hearted fun-seekers who had obviously taken it to heart and dressed the part. A couple of movie fans and film buffs. But sadly far too many dirty raincoat brigade blokes who stood around the edges and kept their hands in their pockets throughout - drank too much and shouted 'get yer tits out' just one time too many.

This was WAY the wrong venue. Far too big and cold. Should have been seated, should have been part of an event or a club night or cabaret, should have been so much more fun!

It should have been advertised properly too. Sorry, Concorde, you can fill the place with a big name without having to do any work, but some people need a little more help!

The lady herself was funny. Rude and typically camp, quite burlesque and saucy too, she screamed with laughter at one of my bad jokes (somebody had to) and gave us a few choice titbits.

YES - they were real then, but ain't now.

NO she didn't shag Jim Morrison - he had really bad BO.

YES, she still sees all the other Kittens, mostly barbeques and 'pool side fun'.

NO - she doesn't see Russ - poor bugger's very sick these days.

She took time to advertise her own website kittenklub (DEFINITELY NOT OFFICE SAFE, erhemmm!) and was very game - a bit like a cross between Margarita Pracatan and Lola Ferrari. Imagine Jordan with a sense of humour, a heavy South American accent and really REALLY big boobs.

Somebody really messed up tonight, should have been a winner - ended up just another sinner.

about Concorde 2

Okay, so you may have to walk a bit to reach it... but that just makes it that little bit more exclusive doesn't it! Located along Madeira Drive, the Concorde 2 is a sizeable venue with a huge variety of clubnights and bands on each month. Some top names, some great festivals, World Music... you name it. If you can't find something to pique your interest then you might as well pack your bags and head for Eastbourne...
