Brighton's Royal York Hotel was today honoured with a Blue Plaque to mark the visit of two of its most famous guests - King William IV and Queen Adelaide. Hotel owner, Ayse Sutton and Gary Peltzer-Dunn, Mayor of Brighton unveiled the plaque before treating those present to a champagne reception and a superb three-course lunch at the hotel's new restaurant - Max's Sea Grill.
Relaxed yet elegant, Brighton's freshest eatery caters for up to 50 diners for lunch and dinner each day. We were wowed by the Head Chef Kristian Smith-Wallace's menu, featuring locally-sourced, flavoursome produce and, of course, the very best catch of the day.
I opted for the delicious Mediterranean Fish Soup, followed by a beautiful Sea Bass fillet accompanied by minted new potatoes and market vegetables. The meal was perfectly rounded off with a delectably rich Chocolate Torte partnered with Chef's own Honeycomb Ice Cream - possibly the best thing I've ever tasted!
Max's Sea Grill offers a uncomplicated and very reasonably priced menu, with all mains at just £10.50. But don't panic if you don't eat fish - there's a selection of expertly crafted meat and vegetarian dishes too!
Offering great food at such good value, I would wholeheartedly recommend the restaurant as a relaxed and unpretentious dining option for local residents and those visiting Brighton alike. I know I'll be heading back very soon!
