A new type of event for Brighton and Hove took place at the Babylon Lounge in Hove tonight. The capacity crowd of 140 were greeted by gorgeous waiters offering bucks fizz to all - before continuing to wait on us ensuring that our glasses were full throughout the performance.
Miss Jason, resplendent in a gold sequined gown, started with a song before draping himself over a chesterfield and regaling us with stories of his life. Sometimes sad, sometimes funny, but all told in Miss Jasons' inimitable way. We heard of his mother losing her leg, his father wearing a red ribbon on his hat band, how he started in the business and what influence Phil Starr had on him.
During Jason's rendition of "Over the rainbow" - whilst watching photos of Phil on a big screen, right at the end of the number there was a bang and the microphone went off. It was just like Phil was saying "I'm watching mind and get on with it". The room erupted at this and it was a fitting end to the first half of the programme.
Returning in a harlequin patterned gown - the show went from strength to strength proving that against some views that you couldn't get a Brighton audience to pay to see a show. If the act is right - people will pay and sit and listen to the show. The evening finished with a standing ovation and encore... and another standing ovation.
It was a night that will be remembered for a long time. Thanks must go to Davina Sparkle who produced the event, Babylon Lounge staff and the fabulous waiters.
