Brighton marks the International Day Against Homophobia Biphobia and Transphobia 2009.

This year's event, for the first time, took place at the Kissing Wall sculpture on the seafront, but not for the first time in the wind and rain! The weather didn't put off 100 or so people from gathering to listen to the speeches and songs and to mark a minute's noisy reflection for those facing persecution for being LGBT around the world.

It's hard to believe that it's such recent history that the World Health Organisation took homosexuality off its list of mental health problems (1990), and IDAHO marks that day each year.

In 86 countries globally, homosexuality is criminalised and in seven of those countries lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and those who identify as trans are often murdered simply for their sexuality or gender identity.
