DJing at Brighton pride is a gig like no other. The tunes are big, the nerves even bigger. It's the kind of weekend that terrifies as it thrills and don't let any DJ tell you otherwise... Sales in Imodium are up that weekend I assure you.
But then as you make your away across Preston Park towards those Pride decks and feel the bassline coming up through the grass you get why you do this.
It's the people, the grins and the thrill. That breakdown in a tune that sounded so good at home but sounds heaven sent in the Wild Fruit tent. The clubbers were tightly packed this year but the arms went up in the air none the less and we had a ball.
All weekend.
Every gig was a corker, every moment delightfully disco dusted and every moment special. Culminating for me at 10:45 on Sunday night when a sweaty missus returned early from The Marlborough in time to hear me play my last Sundae tune. When I couldn't decide how to follow Fade and Love Is In The Air and when - thanks to an Essex moment long ago when my mum introduced me to the joys of Lionel Ritchie - I played All Night Long. Whether it was the giant disco ball, the joys of dancing outside on that terrace or the release of the weekend's nerves, excitement and exhaustion I blubbed. Like a girly girl.
Thank you Brighton Pride. You made my weekend. Can we do again soon?
