The voices of Brighton's three gay choruses were ringing out in turn at St Mary's Church tonight, culminating in a fantastic rousing joint chorus of "You'll Never Walk Alone" conducted by Gscene's James Ledward.
With their very different styles and sounds we were treated to an unforgettable evening of music, song and even a bit of choreography too.
Jason Pimblett led the Brighton & Hove (actually) Gay Men's Chorus through their paces, with the fabulous soprano voice of Samantha Howard lending her astonishing vocals to a few of the numbers. Ignacio Jarquin put the Brighton Gay Men's Chorus through their paces - with their own take on Angels (a number performed by both of the first choirs in turn) and ending on a very lively performance of "I Am What I Am". Finally, Matthew Pollard led the The Rainbow Chorus - with their opening "March of the Women" and Bacharach's "I Say A Little Prayer" amongst other lovely tunes.
The finale of the combined voices of the three choruses was truly stirring... the 600 or so strong audience was up on its feet cheering and screaming as the last notes rang out through the building. Cups of mulled wine and candles were then distributed as the crowd made its way back to the AIDS Memorial for a candlelit vigil and for the reading of the names.
