This year, for the first time, Brighton had a natural place to gather on World AIDS Day. Throughout the day at the Brighton AIDS Memorial people gathered, laid flowers and spent time remembering those that have been lost to HIV/AIDS and those that are struggling with it.
We're told that there are over 80,000 people living with HIV in the UK alone, and up to a quarter of those people don't know they are infected.
Loads of information, facts, figures and guidance is available at the excellent World Aids Day website - it's well worth a few minutes perusal:

loved it!
A small gathering for this the first WAD for the memorial. Wreaths and flowers were placed by councllors and the Lady Mayor. A time and place for quiet contemplation to remember our friends. A small teddy bear was placed on the plinth by an unknown person giving a poinent reminder of why we were there.
It was a great pity that some mindless idiots vandalised the flowers that evening. We still have a long way to go.
