LGBT History Month 2010 was a resounding success, with events held around the country and the Prime Minister even held a gathering to mark the occasion at Number 10.

Tonight Brighton's Jubilee Library was transformed into The Lavender Lounge Bar ("an enchanted evening of camp crooning, butch ballads and magical memories evoking an underground world of daring and desire") with the help of Brighton Ourstory, Brighton & Hove City Council and Nicky Mitchell.

Songs performed by Ritchie Hawker (aka Trudi Styles) and Cat Harding were interspersed with readings from Shanni Collins and Simon Lovat - with Colin Blanchflower at the piano. The performance took us through a slice of gay Brighton history with plenty of laughs along the way - a real treat to watch.

After a short break to allow for drinks (there was a licensed retro "gin & it" bar to keep everyone's whistles wet), Al Start and her band sang us through some more of Brighton's LGBT history...

The event was exceptionally well attended - with more people still drifting in even as REALBrighton slipped away into the night!
