Julia Morris does Screamers!...
review It didn't seem a month ago since we were last here at Screamers, the monthly gay comedy night at Komedia. This month's hostess was Julia Morris, the Australian comedienne who's becoming more famous by the day (perhaps that's why they wouldn't let us take photos?). Julia was on her usual top form, immediately whipping the audience up into fits of laughter, regaling us with tales from down under and comparing our beach to a Japanese bottle garden. Not an unfair comparison, we thought. It was then on with the acts and, for a change, I'd heard of the first two but had yet to see them in action. Opening the show was Paul Sina, a gay Asian comic who worked well with the audience, although it was easy to see why he wasn't the headliner. His set offered a few good laughs and was mostly based around different cultures mixing and failing to mix with each other. Next we were in for a real treat. Glen Richardson, a musical act who's numbers included "Antiques Roadshow - the Opera"‚ and "Terry's All Gold - the Musical"! Rip-roaringly funny and leaving the audience begging for more, my advice would be to catch Glen soon. You'll have to forgive me for perhaps being a bit impartial on the headline act, who are, as it turned out, some of my (only) friends that I've met on the comedy circuit. Lynn Chambers and Sally Nettleton, The Times says, are "attracting the attention of telly folk searching for a new French & Saunders." Their act, packed with songs and witty one-liners never fail to please a gay audience, and hence their regular appearances at gay venues across the country. Their obvious friendship and enjoyment of performing always comes over well, and they gave us an excellent end to the evening. Screamers is on the last Sunday of every month. We'll be there too. And who knows... maybe next month we'll be allowed to bring you some photos, too! about Komedia
