I’ve got to admit, that a lover of cheese as I am, I wasn’t best looking forward to an entire Saturday night devoted to the decade that taste forgot, but I am so glad I went along. Walking into the club was somewhat reminiscent of my old school discos. The place wasn’t totally packed to start off with but those that were there were definitely making the most of it. With Dirty dancing playing on the TV screens and huge ‘Acid’ smileys dangling from the ceiling I was transported back in time to an era where I was desperate to be one of the Goonies or go and visit Elliot and his new friend ET.
The club soon filled out with a crowd quite diverse in ages, some dressed in 80’s get up but everyone with a massive smile on their faces. DJ Aaron Paul kept the memories flooding in with his usual style of classic hits, and despite a few jumping tracks here and there (didn't they know the 80s was when CDs were invented?) the night was a massive success, helped along nicely by the fact that most drinks seemed to be just £2 each.
I’m sure Babycham is here to stay, so make sure you practise your break-dancing and get yourself down there for the 3rd Saturday in every month, but leave your dancing flower and cabbage patch kid at home!
My only gripe… where was Pac Man? The computer game sensation that had us all transfixed in the 80s has been taken from Charles St. never to be seen again!
