REALBrighton review
It turns out there is something of a community out there, and it turns out all it takes is a humble pub qiuz to bring some of us together.
Charles Street bar was tonight packed to bursting point as 20 groups from bars, pubs, community groups and clubs huddled around tables to prove just how clever they were!
Lola Lasagne took to the stage as our fabulous hostess - entertaining us with quick witted banter, an occasional song or two and - of course - being our question mistress for the evening. For the first time the evening featured a house band too - the very talented The Misfitz, Joss and Gray, who not only provided some much needed musical interludes but who also played song snippets for our music round. Here's hoping enough lovely bar and pub managers were as impressed with their performance tonight as we were!
As ever the lovely Charles Street team ensured the night went flawlessly - with Rupert Ellick of Refire behind the sound and light for the night we were in safe hands! Charles Street's Joan Bond was joined by REALBrighton's Bad Drag and Captain Huw who ensured iPhones were kept safely tucked away and everyone paid their entry fees.
As well as being a chance to get sometimes disparate parts of the community together for a night of giggles, tonight also marked the launch of voting for the Golden Handbags (if you haven't already voted then drop in at www.realbrighton.com/handbags and get clicking!). And due to some very late nights on Huw's part it also marked the launch of Golden Handbag voting on the latest release of the REALBrighton iPhone app... after updating your app you'll see a little handbag icon at the bottom of the screen! Marvellous!
The REALBrighton quiz this year raised £440 for The Rainbow Fund which is administered by the Sussex Community Foundation and will fund local LGBT causes.
So. All that remains is to give you those results in full (highest score first). It wasn't all about winning... unless you were Wilma's Wonders who've been second at least three times over the last few REALBrighton quiz nights and who finally won themselves the coveted trophy... if only last year's winners could find it!

(…In case it makes any of the lower scorers feel any better I'd like to add myself to the end of this list in 20th position since I couldn't even get the answers to my own picture quiz round and had to ask James!)
A huge thank you, then, to everyone who gave up their time for nothing for a good cause tonight. The star that is Lola, The Misfitz, Rupert Ellick/Refire, James Ledward from Gscene for helping promote the night, Joan Bond, to REALBrighton James for making sure the night actually happened, to Huw for the timely iPhone app relaunch and - of course - to everyone who turned up to support the event. Thanks also to Wild Fruit, Doctor Brightons and Camillin Denny Architects who unfortunately couldn't make it but who donated their entry fee anyway! Marvellous!
