Lollicops - True Vision Launch...
review To mark the launch of the new "True Vision" self-reporting pack for homophobic crime, our friendly local police set up shop at the top of the stairs at Revenge.Everyone entering the building was suitably stickered, and self-reporting packs were handed out to curious clubbers. Dispensers for the packs are being fixed to the walls of most gay venues in the city and we're aaallll encouraged to make full use of them. It's obviously very much in our interests to report homophobia, wherever we find it. By using the packs we can do this anonymously if we choose, and the police can begin to build an accurate picture of this kind of crime in the city. This, in turn, should enable them to police the city more effectively. The police will be reporting back to the community with their findings. Most of us already know where the majority of attacks and abuse occurs, but perhaps we're not aware of the patterns, frequency or circumstances of the attacks... watch this space. So. It's important that you pick up a pack and use it. Hate crime, according to the pack, is "any offence committed against a person or property which is motivated by the offender's hatred of people because they are seen as being different." This includes damage, assult, verbal abuse and harassment. REALBrighton VIPs can also take part in our online discussion on this subject in the forum.
